Blog EntrySep 11, '10 11:46 PM
for everyone

Two decades ago, Hacienda Luisita was subjected under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). The Stock Distribution Option was implemented.

21 years under the program,
the farmers of Hacienda Luisita were reduced to mere “employees’’ of the vast sugar land estate who had to earn their shares of profit by working beyond their means in the plantation.

The scheme proved to be fatal for the farmer-workers as they were confronted with scarcity of job and reduced man-days in the succeeding years because of the mechanization of the plantation and the conversion of sizable portions of land to industrial parks. The value of the shares of the farmers has been cut down to a pittance making it hardly for any farmer’s family to make both ends meet.

On Wednesday, September 15, 2010, the Hacienda Luisita Peasant Supporters Network in partnership with Kilometer 64 Poetry Collective and Artist Arrest will launch a Blog Action Day with the theme: "Bayan ay hindi lalaya, kung ang Magsasaka ay walang sariling lupa."

One day, one issue, grounded in the foundation of administering justice by giving "land to the tillers"
we will change the conversation.

Blog your opinions on the various issues besetting the peasants of Hacienda Luisita: Militarization, Massacre, Extra-judicial killings, Land Dispute, Labor Issue. You may also blog in the form of poems, art works, and photos, related to the issue and the theme.

Check out the timeline of events here.

Link your blog entries to this post and grab the button below by copying the link to mark your participation. We will start posting links of entries at exactly 12:00 noon on September 15.

Thanks Si. I'm away most of today, travelling. It will be Monday where you are by the time I can get a good look at this topic, but I undoubtedly will.
